In 2008, Valmont commissioned research into the life cycle analysis of the aluminum, steel and wood poles the company produces at various sites in Europe. In fact, this Life Cycle Analysis has been the basis for the popular Valmont Zero Emission Pole (ZEP) program.
The scientific research was conducted by the Reylers Oy company in cooperation with the University of Lappenranta in Finland. The results provided many relevant insights related to CO2 emissions as well as broader environmental information, commonly referred to as ECO99 indicators.
The Life Cycle Analysis began with a study of raw materials such as bauxite, iron ore and timber and took into account the complete environmental impact through production, transport and the entire service life of the pole.
